Is it Profitable to Write and Sell eBooks on Amazon Kindle?

The short answer is, Absolutely. People are still writing and selling eBooks everyday. According to recent statistics, fiction and non-fiction both are on the increase.

Not Every eBook Sells

You must do your research first, confirm there is a market for your chosen topic, where the readers (buyers) are hanging out, and exactly what they are buying.

For example, you want to write a non fiction self-help guide. First, check out your target audience on social media and forums, and write in a solution or two, to the questions they are asking, or the problems they are having.

Don’t just write the eBook, and expect it will sell, find out what is selling and target the eBook at it. There is no point in spending a huge amount of your time writing something that nobody wants to read or buy.

Make sure your content is current (again, do your research), and well written.

It is common practice to enhance the eBook, with some Checklists or Mind maps, to make it a package, rather than just a book.

Marketing is the crucial aspect of the process. When you start your eBook, also start some pre-selling of yourself on social media or a blog, etc. Your sales will probably depend on you being preconceived as an expert on the topic, prior to selling the actual eBook.

Get an Editor

One of the biggest mistakes people make is not throughly going through the manuscript before self-publishing their book. I can’t stress how important it is to have someone, (besides yourself) put a second pair of eyes on it.

The poor quality of so many self-published books has left a scar on the self-publishing world.

A poor quality book will bomb in the market because people will immediately start leaving negative reviews on Amazon and that will (unfortunately) convince others to not buy your book.

So, focus on quality.

You Can Make Money With Kindle

You will need to roll up your sleeves and learn how to market your book.

The people who make money from kindle to live off of it are usually successful because they have an author platform (email list, website, social media, etc) that helps to promote them and build their author brand.

The secret to selling ebooks on Kindle is:

  • Marketing
  • Marketing
  • Marketing

Last year, a million new book titles hit the market, that means if you published a new ebook out there, it will probably get swallowed up with no one noticing UNLESS you learn how to market yourself and your book.

Plan on spending serious time and energy doing just that, or you’re wasting your time.
